Ex-trainees had an excellent opportunity to exchange and share their knowledge and information which can be utilized and applied in their own target areas. Network was built among them to further develop their work and expand target groups in the future. APCD's concept is to break barriers for all, including women with disabilities who are ignored by society. This is the first time for APCD to organize a Seminar on Women with Disabilities (WWD). The Seminar was conducted from 4-6 March 2008 at APCD's training building. The objectives were to give knowledge in equality and rights for Women with Disabilities and set up networking among the 35 participants who are leaders of women and men with disabilities.
Contents of the seminar included reviewing the international legal framework and social norm (CEDAW), and analysis regarding the roles of women and men. Group discussion focused on disclosure of male and female stereotypes, the relationship between poverty and rights in development, a panel discussion on women's participation in development and the current situation & crisis/problems of women with disabilities. Participants also had a chance to visit Promoting Womens' Status Center in order to see real problems. Participants then wrote action plans for future networking.
