APCD Refresher Training Course in Peer-Counseling for People with Disabilities

APCD implemented a Refresher Training Course in Peer Counseling for People with Disabilities from 1-4 and 14-18 March 2005 in order to develop leaders in peer-counseling to effectively conduct and teach peer-counseling to other people with disabilities in Thailand by training 9 former participants of the IL course to further their understanding of peer-counseling theory, to enhance peer-counseling skills and to develop training skills in order to teach peer-counseling to others.

"Peer Counseling" is a strategy to make persons with disabilities find solutions by themselves. They have opportunities to speak, think, and decide.

Mr. Kittchai Netpisanwanitch, Thailand

This training helped me clearly understand the concept of "Peer-Counseling". The resource persons were experts and made every issue clear that used to confuse me. After this training, I have more skills as a leader in peer-counseling and I have more self-confidence. I believe that I can use the knowledge gained from this training to improve the peer-counseling activities in my area.

Ms. Arunwadee Limangkul, Thailand

It was my pleasure to join this training. My friends and I had the opportunity to discuss the concept and activities of peer-counseling. We realize that we can not copy the peer-counseling model of Japan or any other country, but we must try to analyze and find the appropriate model and activities for our country. We'll work hard because we now understand that peer-counseling can help PWDs to relax and understand themselves.
