Myanmar Former Deaf Trainee
In order to empower people with disabilities and promote a barrier-free society, various training courses have been implemented under the HRD Program of APCD. More than 100 former trainees from 14 developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region are now actively working as"partners of APCD."
In this regard, the HRD Missions were dispatched from April to June 2004 to Viet Nam, Myanmar, India, Cambodia, and Lao PDR. The highlights of the Mission outputs are as follows:
Most participants who were interviewed continue to have a commitment and are active in the field of APCD training. Some outstanding participants had initiated relevant activities utilizing the knowledge and skills obtained through APCD's training courses, and played an important role in their domestic training, organizational development, policy advocacy, etc. at the district, provincial, and national levels.

Networking Meeting in Viet Nam
Networking among all training participants can synergize the respective outputs towards APCD's goal. In this sense, the Mission tried to promote networking all former participants regardless of their type of training by organizing a networking meeting in each country. Through participatory discussion, the participants learned more about the other related training participants. The Mission appreciated the conclusion of their discussion that they would like to further promote their network and organize relevant activities in their countries in cooperation with APCD.
APCD's government focal points greatly supported the networking meetings. Through this cooperation, the focal points were able to better understand the APCD HRD Program. The Mission appreciated their efforts in developing a fair recruitment system and agreeing to collaborate with various non-governmental organizations.

Field Survey in India
APCD deals with disability and development issues, some of which are common to various developing countries but some of which are very specific to a country due to its socioeconomic condition, etc. This Mission provided a great opportunity for theAPCD HRD personnel to comprehensively understand the socioeconomic background of the training participants. Through relevant field surveys, the APCD HRD personnel are able to deepen their insights, which will contribute to further development of effective HRD strategies.
