APCD Activities in Brief (July-September 2003)
APCD is approaching the last quarter of the Year 2003. Within the past three months, APCD continually implemented activities towards the empowerment of and a barrier-free society for persons with disabilities in developing countries of the Asia-Pacific region. Starting with APCD's networking and collaboration, APCD conducted a mission to Bangladesh from 1-5 July 2003 and a joint cooperation study mission with JICA's study team to Viet Nam in August. APCD was warmly welcomed by all organizations visited and was able to contact and network with more disabilityrelated organizations. Moreover, APCD developed closer responsibilities networking and collaboration with organizations in Thailand such as Ratchasuda College.

Regarding APCD's human resource development activities, the HRD sub-division conducted two training workshops. First, the Regional Workshop on Web-based Networking was held from 21 July-1 August 2003 in close collaboration with the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC) and the UN ESCAP. Twentytwo persons with disabilities from eleven countries participated. The Capacity Building of Self-Help Organizations for Persons with Disabilities followed from 10-20 September 2003 with 24 participants from 6 countries in the region.
Activities of the Information Support sub-division consisted of the publication of the 4th Empowerment APCD newsletter, updates and the development of a website which will be more accessible for persons with disabilities as well as the publication of country profiles to be updated on the APCD website and utilized in the future resource room. Also, they organized the Regional Workshop on Web-based Networking in cooperation with the Human Resources Development sub-division.
APCD is now into its 2nd year with stability and commitment towards the empowerment of persons with disabilities who will become the "agents of change" in the near future.
