4. Plan of Action the New Decade

Thailand will continue to promote the development and empowerment of persons with disabilities to be more productive members of society. Thailand will continue to extend support and assistance to the neighboring countries, particularly in the areas of expertise.

Two projects will soon be undertaken to establish; 1) the Research and Development Center of Assistive Technology for Persons with Disabilities and 2) the Assistive Technology Service Center for Persons with Disabilities. Thailand is in the process of setting up a prostheses and orthosis school at the Sirindhorn National Medical Rehabilitation Center. The Thai and Japanese governments are working together to establish the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability in Thailand. This Center will act as an information center for PWDs and regional co-operation center for the Asia-Pacific region. Besides, the Center will hold regional training programs, seminars, and conferences for persons with disabilities and related people. Moreover, the Center will help development of technologies to fit with lifestyle of persons with disabilities in the Asia-Pacific region.
