According to the Department of Social Welfare, a two stage sample survey was conducted by the Health Information Service of the Department of Health in 1985. Estimates from the survey indicated at approximately 2% of the population had physical disabilities. The figure did not include any other types of disabilities. No other official statistics on PWDs were readily available.
